2022 Community Committment Awards Submission

Maspeth Federal Savings' Financial Literacy Program was created with the intent to empower students to have the basic knowledge to make sound decisions regarding their financial goals. As a trusted community financial institution, we wanted to be there providing those necessary tools and resources to help students make better financial decisions. We realized that there is a lack of financial literacy being taught in school, so we decided that we'd open this program up to all our local high schools, colleges, and universities. Most importantly, we wanted to make sure we go on campus and host workshops discussing budgeting, savings, credit, and debt. From the Fall 2021 to May 2022, we were able to host 11 separate workshops, all in person with the option of virtual for students who were still interested in participating. We provided worksheets, tip sheets and best practices with each presentation. Our CEO, Thomas Rudzewick, attended every workshop to speak to the students and share his own personal financial journey and answer any questions they had. Our goal is to continue bringing financial awareness to our communities by covering a broad range of topics in the upcoming years.
