Adams Community Bank (Honorable Mention) - Adams, MA

2022 Community Committment Awards Submission

  • Volunteerism
  • Asset Size: Small

A worldwide pandemic did not stop Adams Community Bank from living its core value 'Support and Promote Our Community'. While still working full time and in the office, our staff volunteered with local agencies to promote and support access and administration of the COVID 19 vaccine.

When vaccines became available for those over 75, the ACB team assisted local Councils on Aging by doing telephone outreach to the elderly to help them get vaccine appointments, register them on-line and make sure they had transportation to the appointment. Bank volunteers were supplied a list of names and phone numbers from the COA. Some of the seniors had family that had already assisted them while others had no support in navigating the process. The appreciation from those in need of help, was heartfelt. There were tears, joy and much relief. Some even asked the volunteers to call people they knew who also needed help. Gratitude came not only from our elderly, but from their out-of-town family members as well.

When clinics opened in early January 2021, our ACB volunteers jumped into action again to help the elderly navigate the clinic itself. Along with everyone else, they had been isolated for almost a year and were very apprehensive about being out of their homes and even more anxious about receiving the vaccine. The clinic operated into June, through the completion of the 12 and older phase where ACB volunteers supported the Northern Berkshire Pediatric practice to get the youngest eligible people vaccinated.

These efforts resulted in more than seven hundred hours of volunteer assistance from the Adams Community Bank team.
