My bank is considering scanning an image of a customer’s state-issued driver’s license at bank account opening and using it as a form of identification for check-cashing purposes. However, the bank has been told that retaining copies of a driver’s license obtained during online account opening is prohibited. Is that correct? If yes, does the prohibition also apply to in-person account opening?
