Climate-Related Regulation and Disclosure

ABA Position

In recent years, policymakers, regulators, investors, customers and others have focused on the role of financial institutions in the shift toward a low-carbon economy as well as in disclosure and management of climate-related financial risks. Differing approaches from federal, state, non-governmental and international bodies have created varied compliance requirements.

Banks must navigate policy initiatives that both expand climate-related regulation and disclosure and impose constraints on certain lending practices. These developments require institutions to ensure compliance while maintaining sound risk management practices.
