Internet Gambling

The Department of the Treasury and the Federal Reserve Board issued a joint final rule to implement the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA).

Banks are free to make their own decisions about whether to allow the cards they issue to be used at merchants that are coded as lawful online wagering sites. Banks should not be held liable for processing these transactions, as card networks and acquirers are responsible for doing the due diligence on the lawfulness of gambling entities.
