Is a bank required to place the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and Equal Housing Lender logos on a HELOC statement?

Is a bank required to place the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (Member FDIC) and Equal Housing Lender (EHL) logos on a home equity line of credit (HELOC) statement?

No, neither are required on the customer’s mortgage or HELOC statements unless the bank is advertising something. For example, if a mortgage statement contains an advertisement for a loan refinance or a HELOC, the Equal housing Lender (EHL) logo is required as part of that ad. If a HELOC statement contains an ad for a deposit account, the Member FDIC logo is required. However, if the bank is just sending a statement for either of these products, neither logo is required because an account statement is not an advertisement. (July 2019)
