Military Lending Act

MLA restricts the terms, including the military annual percentage rate, on certain consumer loans made to military personnel, their spouses, and dependents and requires they be provided certain disclosures.

MLA was passed without hearings or public debate. The Department of Defense is responsible for adopting regulations and significantly expanded its scope in 2015 to include credit cards and unsecured personal loans. Problems with the regulation (including those related to GAP insurance) persist despite the DoD's adoption of an "interpretive rule."
