ABA: The American Bankers Association

Louisiana State University

Academic Institution Member – ABA Partner Network

Louisiana State University’s E. J. Ourso College of Business and Department of Finance are committed to developing the next generation of commercial banking professionals and supporting the talent-development needs of the banking industry.

The Commercial Banking Initiative (CBI) brings together academic preparation, industry engagement, and experiential learning to prepare students for careers in commercial banking. Students may pursue LSU’s Commercial Banking Concentration, which provides focused coursework in banking and credit and incorporates industry-recognized education and credentials. The Commercial Banking Student Association (CBSA) extends that preparation beyond the classroom through professional development, career exploration, bank visits, competitions, service activities, and interaction with banking professionals.

The CBI Corporate Partner Program provides a structured framework for financial institutions to engage with LSU and its students. Corporate Partners support the development of future banking professionals while participating in meaningful student engagement, career development, experiential learning, and strategic dialogue with the CBI. The program is designed as a partnership between LSU and the banking industry, with student development at its core.

LSU also serves working banking professionals through the Commercial Lending Development Program (CLDP), offered in partnership with the Louisiana Bankers Association. The four-month program combines instruction from LSU faculty and experienced bankers with American Bankers Association curriculum to develop practical capabilities in credit analysis, loan structuring, servicing, market and industry analysis, portfolio management, and related professional skills. Successful participants receive an LSU Certificate of Completion and are eligible to earn the ABA Certificate in Business and Commercial Lending.

Together, these programs help strengthen the banking talent pipeline, connect students with meaningful career opportunities, provide continuing professional education for bankers, and support the long-term strength of the banking industry in Louisiana and the Southeast.
