Based at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam in Hawaii, Harris commands all U.S. forces in the Pacific Ocean, eastern Indian Ocean and East Asia. Pacific Command is the largest geographic combatant command in the U.S. Armed Forces, covering half of the earth’s surface and numerous areas of strategic engagement, including North Korea, Taiwan, the South China Sea and the Strait of Malacca. On February 9, President Trump nominated Harris to serve as the next U.S. ambassador to Australia. Throughout his four-decade naval career, Harris has logged 4,400 flight hours—including more than 400 combat hours—in maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft. He is the first Navy pilot from this community to achieve four-star rank.
