Commercial Real Estate Lending Committee

The ABA Commercial Real Estate Lending Committee is an open committee for all ABA members. The committee focuses on issues affecting commercial and multifamily residential mortgages, including appraisals, accounting requirements, insurance needs, regulatory reform and industry best practices. The committee guides ABA’s advocacy on commercial real estate lending, and works closely with ABA’s Mortgage Markets Committee. Meetings are held monthly or bi-monthly via conference call. Commercial Real Estate Lending Committee Meeting

September 24-26, 2018

Following is the CRE Lending Committee Agenda for our in-person meeting scheduled for September 24th -26th, 2018 in Washington, DC. Per your request, we have expanded the agenda to make it more robust by adding more speakers and in-depth roundtable discussions choosing topics that meet the needs of the Commercial Real Estate business areas you represent.

We are excited to highlight a few areas and the following guest speakers:

  • Joseph J. Hill, President & CEO from CEIS Review, Inc., New York, NY. Joe will do an overview on Credit Trends in CRE. CEIS is one of the premier Loan Review, Loan Loss Reserve, and Loan Portfolio Stress Testing Consultants in the industry.
  • Robert Calhoun, Managing Director of Market Analytics for CoStar Group. Robert will present a deep dive into the national and regional markets, along with risk and opportunity themes. CoStar is used by many lenders as a supplement to the CRE loan offering and write up, providing in depth tools on the markets.
  • Chat with the Federal Regulators. The heads of each of the agencies have changed. Come, sit down, listen to the agencies CRE policy specialists to see how the regulatory agency may change their exam approach in different areas. On the list of discussion topics is guidance on concentrations.
  • Your colleagues from the CRE Lending Admin Committee have personally selected topics in the agenda for our Peer Discussions, we know you will want to be at the table for:
    • Strengthening CRE Bench – Part II
    • Dealing with Competition – Non-Bank Competitors – Foreign Capital Trade Wars
    • Market Change Impact on Assets – Are we still short on housing? What is the Amazon effect on Retail/Industrial?
    • Risk Structure: Industry Best Practices. How to overcome the comment that the “CRE markets are near peak” in an attempt to slow CRE Lending growth.
  • Come early for a DC must, Tour of Capital Hill followed by a casual dinner at the famous Old Ebbitt Grill.
