ABA Statement on Jelena McWilliams’ Nomination to Serve as FDIC Chairman

By Rob Nichols, ABA president and CEO

“We congratulate Jelena McWilliams on her nomination to serve as FDIC chairman.  Her substantial banking and policy experience provide her with a valuable perspective in developing policies that will maintain public confidence in the nation’s financial system. We look forward to her working with the new leadership at the Federal Reserve and OCC to ensure financial rules promote economic growth and customer needs while still protecting safety and soundness. We urge the Senate to quickly consider her nomination.
“We also want to thank Chairman Gruenberg for his long and dedicated service to the FDIC and the depositors it ensures. We are grateful for his service to the nation.”
