ABA Statement on Hurricane Florence

By Rob Nichols, ABA president and CEO

“It’s clear that Hurricane Florence and its remnants dealt a devastating blow to North Carolina and surrounding states. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those impacted by the storm and the first responders who have done a fantastic job under challenging conditions. I know that some of our member banks sustained serious damage, but are doing what they can to serve their customers and support their communities.

“We are coordinating closely with our state bankers association colleagues in the affected areas to assess the full impact on financial institutions and their employees. Overall, thanks to careful planning and preparation by bankers as well as local, state and federal officials, the banking system continues to function well. As more damage assessments come in, ABA stands ready to assist recovery efforts in any way we can.”
