ABA Nominates Officers for 2017-2018


​WASHINGTON — The American Bankers Association’s Nominating Committee has selected the official slate of candidates for ABA officers for election at the association’s annual convention to be held in Chicago, October 15-17. 
 The Committee, chaired by R. Daniel Blanton, senior executive vice president of South State Bank, Augusta, Ga., nominated these candidates for ABA officer positions:
  • CHAIRMAN:  Kenneth L. Burgess, Jr., chairman, FirstCapital Bank of Texas, Midland, Texas; 
  • CHAIRMAN-ELECT: Jeffrey M. Szyperski, chairman, president and CEO, Chesapeake Bank, Kilmarnock, Va.;
  • VICE CHAIRMAN:  Laurie L. Stewart, president and CEO, Sound Community Bank, Seattle; and
  • TREASURER:  George W. Hermann, president & CEO, Windsor Federal Savings, Windsor, Conn.
“We’re excited that the nominating committee has put forth such an impressive slate of officers who have contributed so much to our industry,” said Rob Nichols, ABA president and CEO. “These bankers are passionate and engaged industry leaders who volunteer tremendous amounts of their time to represent banks of all sizes before Congress, regulators and gatherings in the U.S. and around the globe.  Our industry is grateful for their leadership, dedication and expertise.”
The American Bankers Association is the voice of the nation’s $17 trillion banking industry, which is composed of small, regional and large banks that together employ more than 2 million people, safeguard $13 trillion in deposits and extend more than $9 trillion in loans.
