Lawmakers, Regulators to Join Bankers at ABA Government Relations Summit

WASHINGTON — Bankers from across the country will head to the nation’s capital for the American Bankers Association’s Government Relations Summit, March 20-22 at the Marriott Marquis Washington. The Summit will offer attendees the opportunity to meet with members of Congress, gain rare insight into evolving policy issues and bolster their bank advocacy efforts.

“This year has the potential to be a game changer for our industry,” said Rob Nichols, ABA’s president and CEO. “With a new Congress and a new administration in Washington, it has never been more critical for bankers to come to Capitol Hill to lobby and weigh in on our industry’s most important policy issues.”

Keynote speakers include:
  • Sen. Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), chairman, Senate Banking Committee;
  • Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas), chairman, House Financial Services Committee;
  • Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.), majority whip, House of Representatives;
  • Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio), ranking member, Senate Banking Committee;
  • Chris Wallace, journalist and host, Fox News Sunday; and
  • Paul Mecurio, correspondent, Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
Bankers will also hear from regulators from the CFPB, FDIC, Federal Reserve and OCC.  In addition, the Summit will feature a panel discussion on the impact of social media on bank advocacy with on-air CNBC correspondent, Kayla Tausche; Facebook client partner and digital communications strategist, Chase Mohney; and Twitter politics, government, & advocacy account executive, Andrew Carroll.

The full program is available here. Other events taking place during the Summit include ABA’s Mutual Community Bank Forum, March 19-20, ABA’s Emerging Leaders Forum, March 20 and the Women’s Leadership Forum, March 22.
