Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Internal Revenue Service delayed the income tax filing deadline for 2020 to May 17, 2021. This delay also gave all taxpayers additional time to make their HSA contributions for 2020 as well as remove any excess contributions for 2020 without taxes or penalties. The IRS further delayed the income tax filing deadlines for taxpayers affected by severe storms and natural disasters in certain states. These delays provide even more time for these individuals to make their HSA contributions and remove any excess contributions for 2020.
Below is a list of the affected areas and their revised income tax filing and HSA contribution deadlines for 2020. The list will be updated when new announcements are made by the IRS.
