Venezuela Passport Expiration Date Extended for Five Years

As instability continues in Venezuela, the country has extended the expiration date for passports and consular cards by five years and the U.S. Department of State has said it will accept the documents.

Financial institutions can follow the guidance from Venezuela and the Department of State and accept the documents to verify identification, ABA told the Venezuelan embassy in response to a request for assistance.

The Treasury Department confirmed to ABA the situation is similar to issues with expired U.S. driver’s licenses at the onset of the pandemic, where despite a lack of written guidance from federal agencies, financial institutions were able to follow what state authorities had established.
