ABA, State Associations Urge GLBA Exemption in State Model Privacy Law

With a committee of the Uniform Law Commission in the multiyear process of drafting a model state-level data privacy law, ABA, national trade associations and the state bankers associations have asked the committee to draft an exemption for financial institutions subject to the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act. The associations emphasized that the banking industry is subject to a carefully balanced federal privacy regime and should not be subject to a patchwork of state privacy laws. For more information, contact ABA’s Andy Guggenheim.
