NCIF is the largest investor of equity in mission-oriented banks (by numbers) in the country. It uses its network of banks to originate assets that meet programmatic and geographic investment needs of investors. NCIF achieves its mission via three lines of business:

1. Originating equity assets by investing private capital into Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) and other mission-oriented banks in low- and moderate-income communities to yield a superior financial return, along with social and environmental impact;

2. Originating fixed income assets via its network of banks through New Markets Tax Credits (NMTC) and lending; and

3. Measurement of social and environmental impact (www.bankimpact.org / www.bankimpactmaps.org)
