Dawn Causey

General Counsel

Dawn Causey is ABA’s eighth general counsel and has served in that capacity since 2003. As general counsel, Dawn heads an in-house team responsible for the association’s own governance, contract, compliance and litigation needs. In addition, Dawn provides policy input on a number of regulatory and legislative issues including arbitration, credit unions, mutual charters, savings and loan holding companies, litigation and corporate governance.

Prior to becoming general counsel, Dawn served as staff lead for ABA’s Card Policy Council and Mutual Institutions Council. She also previously served as the general counsel of America’s Community Bankers, a trade group for savings institutions that later merged with ABA. While at ACB, Dawn was regulatory counsel and then general counsel serving in senior leadership and leading a small, in-house team that provided governance, contract, amicus filings and compliance support to the trade association.

Dawn served as an attorney for the Federal Home Loan Bank Board/Office of Thrift Supervision in both the regulatory and enforcement divisions. She is a graduate of Milliken University and has her Juris Doctor from The National Law Center, George Washington University.
