ABA Emerging Leader Awards

How do I apply?

The entry period begins March 1, 2022. Applications are accepted through June 30, 2022. In order to complete your application, you’ll need to have handy:

  • Your resume/CV 
  • Your biography
  • One letter of recommendation. The letter of recommendation must include the recommender’s name, affiliation, email address and direct phone number. 

What are the next steps?

After you have applied to the program, you will receive notification that your submission has been received. Winners will be notified by September 1, 2022.

The Emerging Leader Award recognition event will take place at ABA’s 2022 Annual Convention. All winners are invited to register and attend ABA’s conference. 

Who can be nominated?

The American Bankers Association Emerging Leader Awards are open to bank employees who identify as future leaders.

Emerging leaders are high performers who have the desire, capacity, and initiative to make significant contributions toward the success of their bank. They are driven to strengthen both their bank and their community by developing new skills to grow as leaders. They are forward-thinking, adaptable, and innovative in their approaches and have the innate ability to inspire and influence others toward achieving a common goal. 

Can I nominate myself?

Yes.

Can I nominate more than one person?

Yes.

Will the nominee know that he or she has been nominated?

Yes. The nominee will receive an email notifying him/her that a nomination has been submitted. The nominee assumes all responsibility for completing his/her application.

Is there a fee for nominating someone?

No.

Why should I nominate someone?

Nominating someone:

  • Celebrates the achievements of professionals who are tomorrow’s leaders
  • Highlights rising stars in the profession
  • Identifies future leaders
  • Offers honorees a chance to be featured at ABA events, in ABA publications and on ABA’s website
  • Provides honorees with exclusive networking and recognition opportunities, as they are invited as ABA guests to special recognition events
  • Helps advance the future of the banking profession

Do nominees have to be members of ABA?

No. 

How do I know if my online nomination form went through? Will I receive a confirmation?

After submitting your nomination, you will get a message thanking you for your nomination.

When are nominations due?

June 30, 2022.

What is the criteria for selecting the 2022 honorees?

Nominations will be judged by a diverse steering committee. Some of the qualities and characteristics the committee will be looking for include (in no particular order):

  • Dedication to the profession
  • Inventiveness
  • Leadership skills
  • “People” skills/mentoring ability
  • Personal integrity
  • Public speaking/presentation skills
  • Tenure at bank and broader commitment to a career in banking. 
  • Sustained career progress
  • Academic training (advanced degrees, certificates/certifications, etc.)

If selected, what happens next?

ABA will contact all individuals who submitted their nominations.

The 2022 class will be alerted by September 1, 2022 and honored at a special awards ceremony during the 2022 Annual Convention. In addition, honorees will be profiled on ABA’s website and in ABA publications.
