Under Secretary Mandelker to Address 29th Annual Financial Crimes Enforcement Conference

The American Bankers Association and the American Bar Association will bring together the nation’s top experts to address the latest in money laundering, fraud and terrorist financing concerns at the ABA/ABA Financial Crimes Enforcement Conference, formerly known as the Money Laundering Enforcement Conference. The event will be held Dec. 3-5 at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, Md.
The conference will feature a series of robust panel discussions with the nation’s leading experts in banking, legal issues, regulatory compliance and law enforcement as well as keynote addresses from top government officials, including: 
  • Sigal Mandelker, under secretary, terrorism and financial crimes, U.S. Department of Treasury
  • Jamal El-Hindi, acting director, regulatory policy and programs division, Financial Crimes Enforcement Network; and 
  • John Smith, director, Office of Foreign Assets Control
The three-day event is designed to provide critical updates to senior-level BSA/AML compliance officers, in-house and outside bank counsel, fraud officers and investigators, internal and external bank auditors, regulatory officials and consultants on all aspects of money laundering detection, prevention and compliance. This conference is the industry’s longest running anti-money laundering program and the only meeting hosted by the top financial and legal trade associations.

Nationally recognized experts from the banking and legal communities will lead more than 30 informative sessions on topics that include:
  • Reg Tech: The Impacts on Financial Crime Investigations; 
  • The Dark Web and More:  Monitoring and Detecting Cyber-Enabled Crimes; 
  • Banking Marijuana Businesses:  Answers or More Questions?; 
  • Moving Beyond MSBs and Money Transmitters:  New Payment AML Threats; 
  • Negative News:  Verified vs. Unverified; and 
  • Sanctions Enforcement Trends.
ABA will also offer an optional pre-conference workshop – ABA Leading Practices for Financial Crimes Investigations – on Dec. 2 to help attendees maximize their conference learning experience. The workshop will walk attendees through leading practices in detection, investigation, analysis and reporting.
