Thomas Healy Receives ABA Distinguished Service Award for Compliance

WASHINGTON —

Thomas Healy, vice president, enterprise compliance for USAA, today received the 2020 American Bankers Association’s Distinguished Service Award for Compliance. The award recognizes leadership, initiative and accomplishment in banking regulatory compliance management, and was presented during ABA’s Risk and Compliance Virtual Conference this week.

The ABA Compliance Administrative Committee, composed of 14 leading bank executives in the compliance profession, solicits nominations and selects the honoree.

“Thomas has always been a reliable source of helpful regulatory knowledge and insight, and consistently takes the time and energy to share and assist other compliance professionals,” said Carl Pry, managing director, Treliant LLC. “He is absolutely one of the big fish in our little pond of the bank compliance industry, and I cannot think of anyone more deserving of the award this year than Thomas.”

“Thomas is the 26th recipient of the award and like those who have been honored previously, he has made significant contributions to the compliance profession,” said Virginia O’Neill, executive vice president, regulatory compliance and policy, ABA. “In addition to his work at institutions of all sizes, Thomas has been actively involved in ABA compliance schools, conferences, and publications, sharing his enthusiasm and expertise with his peers and those beginning their careers."

“I’m incredibly honored to receive this year’s Distinguished Service Award and to join such a highly regarded group of compliance professionals,” Healy said.

Healy has more than 20 years of experience in the risk and compliance industry, including roles at Ally, Bank of America and Farmers & Merchants Bank. While with Ally, Healy was responsible for building the first line compliance program and had compliance oversight for deposits, credit cards, brand, digital channels and marketing.

At Bank of America, Healy served as the compliance and operational risk manager supporting deposit products, regulatory compliance, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance, and consumer regulatory relations examination management.

Healy began his career in financial services as a compliance officer at Farmers & Merchants Bank in Granite Quarry, N.C. where he was responsible for building the bank’s compliance, Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and security programs.

Healy received his Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Tennessee Technological University. He’s an ABA Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager and serves on the faculty and advisory boards for the ABA Compliance Schools and the editorial board for the ABA Bank Compliance Magazine.
