Annual gathering of bank CEOs from across the country features sessions on bank innovation, leadership training and updates on ABA’s advocacy agenda

WASHINGTON —

Paul Ryan, former Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, will be among the notable speakers who will address bank CEOs at the American Bankers Association’s Annual Convention, Oct. 27-29 in Seattle. This year’s event, held at the Washington State Convention Center, will bring together executives from banks of all sizes to explore trends and emerging issues in financial services so they can navigate today’s challenges with an eye on future success.

Speaker Ryan will take the stage with ABA president and CEO Rob Nichols to discuss the current policy environment in Washington and the important role banks can play to further spur economic growth. In addition to Ryan, Pulitzer Prize-Winning author and historian Jon Meacham will share lessons in leadership and former head coach of the United States Women's National Soccer Team Jill Ellis will discuss strategies for leading individuals toward collective success. Other general session topics include succession planning, opportunities to increase veteran hiring and an update on the work of ABA’s Core Platform Committee.

“This year’s ABA convention will provide bank leaders with the tools they need to navigate a rapidly changing environment so their institutions and communities can thrive,” said Rob Nichols, ABA president and CEO. “From learning about the latest technology innovations to endless networking opportunities with your peers, this is one event that bankers can’t afford to miss.”

During the convention, bankers will also have the opportunity to participate in a variety of knowledge sessions examining trends in banking. Featured topics include:

  • A Business Case for Faster Payments
  • Enabling the AI-Driven Bank with Automated Machine Learning
  • The Farm Bill, Hemp Legalization and Banking
  • Why Banks Must Embrace Innovative Technology to Survive; and
  • Unconventional Wisdom to Grow Core Deposits

The convention will also include a discussion on how banks can build successful diversity, equity and inclusion programs, and the ABA Foundation will take bankers on a Community Development Tour showcasing how local banks are leading community revitalization efforts throughout Seattle. In addition, the ABA Foundation will present the annual Community Commitment Awards to banks in eight categories, and Webster Bank SVP for Community Affairs and Philanthropy Kathy Luria will formally receive the 2019 George Bailey Distinguished Service Award for her extraordinary community engagement work on behalf of the Waterbury, Connecticut bank.
