March 16-17: FDIC Chairman McWilliams, Sens. Brown and Toomey, Reps. Waters and Beatty to Participate in ABA Washington Summit

WASHINGTON —

More than 2,500 bank leaders from across the country will gather virtually to hear from top banking policymakers at the American Bankers Association’s annual Washington Summit, which will be held March 16-17.

Over the course of the two-day Summit, bankers will hear from ABA President and CEO Rob Nichols; FDIC Chairman Jelena McWilliams; Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio), chairman of the Senate Banking Committee; Senate Banking Committee Ranking Member Pat Toomey (R-Pa.); Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.), chairwoman of the House Financial Services Committee; and Rep. Joyce Beatty (D-Ohio), chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus and the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Diversity and Inclusion. More speakers will be added in the coming days.

“With the new administration and new Congress comes new opportunities to advance sound policies that will help banks better serve their customers, clients and communities,” said Rob Nichols, ABA president and CEO. “The Washington Summit provides our members from across the country the chance to hear the perspective of lawmakers, regulators and administration officials setting banking policy. We encourage bank employees in every role to join us for this critically important event.”

Key issues in focus at the Summit include the banking sector's ongoing role in supporting the economic recovery, financial inclusion, and the need to maintain a level playing field between banks and non-banks that offer financial services.

"The tremendous interest in this year's Washington Summit shows how engaged our members are in the important issues facing our country and our industry," said ABA Chair Jim Edwards, CEO of United Bank based in Zebulon, Ga. "This is a great opportunity for us to find policy areas where we can work together with Congress and the administration to defeat this pandemic and grow the economy to the benefit of our customers and the communities we serve."
