ABA Foundation Announces Judges for Annual Corporate Social Responsibility Awards

The American Bankers Association Foundation has announced the national experts responsible for judging the 2018 Community Commitment Awards. The annual awards program celebrates the innovative and high impact contributions banks of all sizes make to their communities. The 2018 award winners will be honored at ABA’s Annual Convention in New York Oct. 21-23.

The awards are presented in six categories ranging from affordable housing to volunteerism. Judges will choose a winner for their designated category based on the creativity and thoughtfulness of the program and if it demonstrates success in measurable terms.

“This year's Community Commitment Award entries really highlight the priority our industry gives to corporate social responsibility,” said Rob Nichols, ABA president and CEO. “We are fortunate to have such an impressive panel of experts this year to judge this competition. They will have a hard time selecting our winners.”

“Each of our judges has a deep understanding of the strong foundation banks provide their communities,” said Corey Carlisle, ABA Foundation executive director. “Their collective knowledge and passion makes them uniquely qualified to select this year’s Community Commitment Awardees.”

Notable judges for each category include:

  • Affordable Housing: Maurice Jones, president and CEO, Local Initiatives Support Corporation;
  • Community & Economic Development: Donna Gambrell, president and CEO, Appalachian Community Capital;
  • Economic Inclusion: Andrea Levere, president, Prosperity Now;
  • Financial Education: Thomas Foley, managing director, World Institute on Disability;
  • Protecting Older Americans: Ed Hutchison, director of traffic safety & triad programs, National Sheriffs’ Association; and
  • Volunteerism: Steve Culbertson, president and CEO, Youth Service America.
