FDIC Chairman Jelena McWilliams, Fed Vice Chair Richard Clarida Headline ABA’s Unconventional Convention

ABA presents a super-sized version of its annual gathering in a new, innovative virtual experience

WASHINGTON —

FDIC Chairman Jelena McWilliams and Federal Reserve Vice Chair Richard Clarida are among the notable speakers who will address bankers at the American Bankers Association’s Unconventional Convention, held virtually Oct. 19-20. The event, one of the largest banking industry gatherings in the country, will combine six separate ABA events into a single online experience where attendees can pick and choose the sessions and speakers that most interest them.

Fed Vice Chair Clarida will join ABA President and CEO Rob Nichols to discuss the Fed’s latest assessment of the economy, the outlook for monetary policy and the role banks are playing to support the recovery. Chairman McWilliams will take the virtual stage the following day to address the health of America’s banks, the banking industry’s ongoing response to the COVID-19 pandemic and joint efforts to promote financial inclusion.

“ABA’s Unconventional Convention is the industry’s must-attend event this fall,” said Rob Nichols, ABA president and CEO. “At a time of rapid change, the incredible list of sessions and speakers will help bankers plan for the future, better serve their customers and communities and engage with their peers in a virtual experience they won’t find anywhere else.”

In addition to Clarida and McWilliams, two veteran political analysts, CNN’s Van Jones and CBS News’ Leslie Sanchez, will offer convention attendees their analysis of the upcoming election just days away.

ABA’s Unconventional Convention will also feature assessments of the COVID-19 pandemic from healthcare experts. Dr. Scott Gottlieb, the former FDA Commissioner and a current contributor to CNBC and CBS News, will discuss the outlook for a successful vaccine. Dr. Robert Kadlec, Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response at the Department of Health and Human Services will detail the administration’s latest efforts to respond to COVID-19.

The convention will feature live general sessions and a wealth of on-demand content featuring dedicated sessions for bank marketers, CFOs and operations professionals, agricultural bankers, CEOs and bank directors.

Featured topics include:

  • The Digitization of Banking – What Fintech and Bigtech Mean for the Competitive Landscape
  • Addressing Economic Inclusion Through Safe and Affordable Bank Accounts
  • The Next Five Years in Banking
  • How to Reduce the Cost of Compliance
  • Bank Fraud: Lessons from the Trenches

In addition to the featured sessions above, best-selling author, CNN Political analyst and former South Carolina state legislator Bakari Sellers will discuss his book “My Vanishing Country,” about life in the rural south. He will be interviewed by South Carolina Bankers Association Chairman and First Citizens Bank Area EVP James Bennett.
