ABA Contributes $50K to Flood Relief Efforts in Kentucky and Montana

WASHINGTON —

ABA today announced it will contribute ,000 to support flood relief efforts in Kentucky and Montana. In response to the devastating flooding in eastern Kentucky that has claimed at least 37 lives, ABA will donate ,000 to the Kentucky Bankers Relief Fund established by the Kentucky Bankers Association. Money from the Fund will assist flood victims including more than 20 bank employees directly affected.

ABA’s Executive Committee also approved a ,000 donation to the ABA Foundation's effort to aid victims of the unprecedented June flooding around Yellowstone National Park in Montana. At the request of the Montana Bankers Association, those funds will be directed to the Montana Community Foundation, which is helping lead recovery efforts. The flooding in western Montana directly impacted some bank employees and has done significant damage to the local economy. The deadline for bankers and others to contribute to the ABA Foundation’s Montana relief effort has been extended to Friday, Aug. 12.

'The flooding in Kentucky and Montana has caused significant hardship for people in those communities including members of our banking family,' said ABA president and CEO Rob Nichols. 'We are pleased to make these contributions in support of our friends at the Kentucky Bankers Association and the Montana Bankers Association who have really stepped up to help their neighbors.'

'The Kentucky Bankers Association is deeply appreciative of ABA's willingness to contribute to our banker relief effort,' said Ballard Cassady, Kentucky Bankers Association president and CEO. 'This marks the second time in less than a year that ABA has provided a helping hand to disaster victims in Kentucky. Just like ABA's contribution after last year's tornadoes, these funds will absolutely make a difference.'

'We cannot thank ABA and the ABA Foundation enough for their support after the historic flooding here in Montana,' said Cary Hegreberg, Montana Bankers Association president and CEO. 'With ABA's donation and the additional funds raised by the ABA Foundation, the banking industry will help western Montana rebuild after one of the worst natural disasters in state history.'
