Bank of Utah - Ogden, Utah

2020 Community Commitment Awards Submission

  • Entry Category: Community & Economic Development
  • Asset Size: Small

In 2011, during the holiday season, many food pantries and shelters in Utah were calling for donations of coats to warm people in need during Utah's frigid winter months. Bank of Utah went into action and created the Warm Bodies, Warm Souls coat drive, to help fill that need. The bank collected new and gently used coats, blankets and other warm clothing at its then-13 branches and delivered approximately nine bags and barrels full donations to two charities. Today, Warm Bodies, Warm Souls has become one of Utah's most visible and successful annual coat drives. Over the years Bank of Utah added two partners, Arctic Circle Restaurants and Red Hanger Cleaners, expanding donation sites from 13 to 70 and broadening campaign messaging. The partners also provide incentive coupons for anyone who donates including a free double cheeseburger and a shirt cleaning. In 2019, the three partners delivered more than 250 containers of donations to 13 Utah charities. Bank of Utah also provides cash donations to the charities. The bank supports the campaign with electronic billboards, retail posters and displays, email blasts to customers, social media posts, a web page and public relations. Local media support Warm Bodies, Warm Souls with radio and TV interviews and newspaper stories. The partners promote the effort with posters, window clings, direct mail, social media and e-blasts.
