USB Gives Back is a program that empowers our team to collaborate and decide on projects and initiatives in the community they would like to impact. Every year the bank launches the start of the program cycle and invites teams to submit ideas for support which in year’s past have included such ideas as; building a playground, planting a healing garden, painting at a summer camp and beyond. These projects are funded with a donation by the Bank that the team manages to. In turn, teams are encouraged to expand the greater good by collaborating which works to unite areas within the bank and even further impact the needed project. The feedback from the participants is always one of great fulfillment as they step away from their normal work routine to do something that they know will make a difference in the community. As a result of the impact of the pandemic, the Bank needed to suspend the yearly program but instead took those allocated funds and launched the Feeding Our Neighbors Community Challenge with a ,000 donation. The challenge was put out to the community and together we raised over ,000 in support of the Danbury Food Collaborative which supports 14 local food pantries meeting the expanded food insecurity needs of our neighbors. Additionally, the Bank awarded its annual Community Hero Award, which was established to celebrate employees of the bank who are inspired by the USB Gives Back program to go above and beyond in support of our community, to Judy Figueroa who volunteered over 400 hours in 2020 alone in support of the Walnut Hill Community Church food pantry which continues to serve nearly 600 families twice a month. It is in this spirit of giving that we're proud of the over 10,000 hours (with the exception of 2020) our team gives in support of local organizations.
