Southside Bank (Honorable Mention) - Tyler, TX

2022 Community Committment Awards Submission

  • Volunteerism
  • Asset Size: Medium

Southside Serves is a volunteer program that empowers employees to give back to their communities by providing every full-time employee with 20 hours of paid time off each year. This volunteer program allows employees to give back during regular work hours with a growing list of approved community organizations.

In 2022, Southside Bank began organizing quarterly 'Southside Serves Days' in each of its four regions. Southside Bank Regional Coordinators collaborate with local non-profits to organize service activities where employees are given the opportunity to participate. Recent activities include packing over 2,400 meal kits for children at the East Texas Food Bank, preparing giveaway bags for The Tyler Run for Autism, painting the interior of a house through PATH (People Attempting to Help), supporting health initiatives for the Austin community, beautifying the campus of a special needs community, and supporting the North Texas United Way Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program.

Since the inception of Southside Serves, in 2019, Southside Bank employees have served their communities through almost 16,000 hours.

Along with the satisfaction employees receive by giving back to their communities, other motivations include bank-wide awards to employees who participate and display outstanding service within the program. This includes regional quarterly drawings where a donation is made to a community development organization of the winner's choice. At the conclusion of each year, the Bank recognizes the top volunteer in each region, as well as the volunteer effort that had the biggest impact bank-wide. These team members will receive internal/external recognitio
