Shelter Share

Bank Independent's Helping Hands program is a volunteer initiative born out of our team member's desire to help their neighbors after the devastating tornadoes that crossed Alabama on April 27, 2011. We strive to engage and serve our local community in a variety of ways to fulfill our mission to make a positive difference in people's lives. The program consists of four share drives that each focus on a specific need within our community. To date the program has had a cumulative impact of over .5 million through 95 local organizations, and our team members have donated almost 10,000 hours of paid community service.

Shelter Share began to meet the needs of our local animal shelters. We collect pet food, supplies, and monetary donations to give back to multiple shelters across our seven-county footprint. Shelter Share has only seen success and growth with new initiatives being added to the drive every year. In 2021, we added an Adoption Day, in which Bank Independent sponsors adoption fees at participating shelters to help reduce the shelter population.
