Path To Indpendence

First National Bank Alaska (Honorable Mention) - Anchorage, Alaska

2020 Community Commitment Awards Submission

  • Entry Category: Affordable Housing
  • Asset Size: Small

Path to Independence (P2I) is an innovative public-private partnership in Anchorage, Alaska. Since early 2018, P2I has gone from an idea to a fully implemented program that is helping individuals and families experiencing homelessness move into housing and toward self-sufficiency, while also engaging landlords and our community in a new way. It came together as a partnership between Weidner Apartment Homes, Cook Inlet Housing Authority, Catholic Social Services, United Way, Municipality of Anchorage, Rasmuson Foundation, First National Bank Alaska, and 20 additional funding partners. In addition to providing a direct investment of ,000 to the P2I rapid rehousing pilot, First National Bank Alaska also nominated the project, leveraging its membership through Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines, for a 2019 Strong Communities Award. The bank further provided an additional in-kind investment, providing the talent of the bank's award-winning Marketing Department to develop a tailored communications plan and social media toolkit (including talking points, custom graphic designs, and a PSA). This in-kind donation in support of the nonprofit partners helped rally public support during the public voting process to achieve success in the urban award category against projects from much larger communities.
