Lady Zizzer Basketball Pink Out

West Plains Bank and Trust Company (Honorable Mention) - West Plains, Missouri

2021 Community Commitment Awards Submission

  • Entry Category: Volunteerism
  • Asset Size: Small

In 2019, West Plains Bank and Trust Company joined Lady Zizzer Basketball (West Plains High School girls basketball program) in their effort to heighten awareness of and raise funds for local services for breast cancer treatment. Breast cancer is a prevalent diagnosis in the community and the local hospital provides excellent care to those who are diagnosed. However, medical staff shared that there were unmet needs among patients, including costs associated with travel, housing, transportation, bills, and more. In one instance, airline tickets were purchased for two family members who flew in to see a patient on hospice.

Lady Zizzer Basketball held the first Pink Out Event in 2010. Before the bank became involved in 2019, the record for fundraising was ,400. West Plains Bank and Trust Company introduced new ideas, put bank connections and resources to work, and rolled up their sleeves volunteering before and during the event. The result was a significant increase in the fundraising total to ,500 in 2019.

In 2020, on the cusp of the pandemic, the Bank renewed its commitment to the event and helped increase the fundraiser total to ,200. With Covid-19 still a huge threat, it was uncertain how the event would fair in 2021. Despite a decrease in game attendance, fundraising leading up to the event resulted in an impressive ,000.
