Heritage Bank - Portland, Oregon

2020 Community Commitment Awards Submission

  • Entry Category: Volunteerism
  • Asset Size: Medium

At Heritage Bank, we are committed to continuously improving our community investment and engagement. We are proud to have team members involved in diverse and varied civic and community projects that serve and improve the communities in which we live and work. To support these endeavors, in addition to bank-sponsored community activities, we launched the Heritage Volunteers program, which provides employees an opportunity to take paid time off to give back. We believe our responsibility is not only to finance economic growth but also give back in other ways to our communities. In addition to financial support, our team members give back to their neighborhoods through countless hours in volunteerism and nonprofit board service. It is our desire to track these hours and report back to our communities the investment we are making to support the health and vibrancy of our neighborhoods. Full-time regular employees may use up to eight hours of volunteer time toward qualified volunteer activities each calendar year. More than one qualified organization may be chosen. There are many opportunities available to employees. Examples include:

  • Providing financial expertise as an advisor or guest speaker
  • Serving as a treasurer for nonprofit organizations, fundraising committees or at events
  • Speaking at a “Career Day” program or participating in Junior Achievement/Financial Beginnings
  • Mentoring or tutoring through a school or service organization
  • Donating your time at a food bank or shelter
