Nonprofit PCs for People's (PCFP) goal is to bridge the “digital divide” and the “homework gap” for individuals, families, schools and nonprofits by providing access to technology to those who otherwise could not afford it. Through electronic refurbishment and reuse, they provide computers and mobile internet to low income people in need. As COVID-19 necessitated school closures and distance learning this spring, PCFP's work became more critical than ever. At a Federal Reserve Investment Connections event in Denver in August, 2019, Alpine Bank's Vice President of Risk Management James Wareham-Morris met PCFP representatives. From that auspicious event, Alpine Bank—with its 40 branches serving 29 Colorado communities—began a successful partnership with an initial donation of 440 computers and related accessories to PCFP.
