Republic Bank & Trust Company (Winner) - Louisville, KY

2022 Community Committment Awards Submission

  • Community and Economic Development
  • Asset Size: Medium

Following a ,000 gift from Republic Bank's Foundation and hundreds of volunteer hours, the Bank's Executive Chair Steve Trager convened a community-building partnership between nine Kentucky banks to fund the final million in capital via short-term loan participation for the Louisville Urban League's Norton Healthcare Sports and Learning Center through a unique loan program. The unique loan program quickly united nine competitor financial institutions toward a common goal. 'When the rubber hit the road and we realized we needed to open the doors for this facility and we had a million-dollar immediate gap, we needed to do something,' said Sadiqa Reynolds, President of the Louisville Urban League. 'I called my friend Steve Trager and I said we need help. That million dollar loan closed the financial gap for us and allowed us to finish this project and open the doors.' 'We take seriously our commitment to community, which is why we heeded the call from the Louisville Urban League and created a partnership with other leading community banks,' said Trager. 'Lending a hand in our West End and ensuring the success of this remarkable facility will benefit our entire city for years to come.'
