Since 2018, Allegiance Bank (AB) has partnered with University of the Incarnate Word's Ettling Center for Civic Leadership and Sustainability (UIW) to help expand the “Un Verano Con ARISE” Summer Education Program in South Texas. ARISE is a non-profit that is located in Hidalgo County, where a large number of families live in “colonias”, which are unincorporated rural areas whose residents experience high levels of poverty, health challenges, lack of transportation, and inadequate educational opportunities. Approximately 40 % of families in this border region have a household income of less than ,000/year. As a result, ARISE works to provide personal development, family strengthening workshops, and other programs such as the Un Verano con ARISE program in which AB helps to support. “Un Verano Con ARISE” (A Summer with ARISE) is a program that works with families to strengthen their communities. As part of the program, UIW conducts a Health/Wellness, Financial Literacy, STEM, & Reading summer camp for the children of the colonias. Approx. 1200 children participate in the program which provides over 800 hours of community service through 30 faculty and students of UIW. In addition, AB helped to expand the program to the Houston area. In 2019, AB, UIW and the Tejano Center For Education, collaborated and launched a STEM/Financial Education Program for students of the Raul Yzaquirre School for Success where over 98% of the students are economically disadvantaged.
