Family-owned Country Club Bank (CCB) has deep roots in the Kansas City community. My late father and former chair of CCB, Byron Thompson, believed the strength of a business reflects the strength of the community where it does business. He also believed it critical for a bank to support not only the business needs of a community but also the needs of the underserved. Following that example, CCB's owners and associates have served on hundreds of boards/committees during the past several decades. Our commitment to community service provides us with insights into the issues and challenges of the community as well as the people and organizations making a positive difference. Our long history of community activity makes us natural community 'connectors.' We recognized our strong brand presence and ability to connect puts us in a unique position to introduce some of KC's difference makers to an even broader audience. We considered the positive outcomes that could result if we were able to 'cross-pollinate' relationships and create greater public awareness of those who work for positive change. In 2018, I approached our ownership/executive teams about launching a podcast to feature KC's business owners, innovators, and civic and nonprofit leaders. My goal was to provide them with more exposure, to celebrate Kansas City and to give voice to change makers who might otherwise be voiceless. I also hoped to create a dialog between 1) the guests so they could use each other as resources and 2) the guests and community residents. These discussions led to the creation of a weekly podcast called 'Banking on KC.' Concepting began in summer 2018 and recording in summer 2019. The first episodes were launched in fall 2019. The 150th episode of the podcast is scheduled for mid-September 2022.
