The MoneyMoments At-Risk Student Retention Initiative improves the futures of the most vulnerable students at our partner universities. This initiative targets college students who are at an increased risk of dropping out before graduation, including first generation students, students from a low-income background, minority students, and students with disabilities.

Our team of 5 facilitators have spent 300 hours developing and teaching financial content to 2,368 at-risk students since January 2020.

We assessed the needs of these students by speaking with leaders at our three partner universities - University of Central Oklahoma, University of Oklahoma, and Arizona State University, who helped us identify seven internal programs that reach at-risk students at their institutions and in the surrounding areas.

After much listening and researching, we developed financial content that directly addressed at-risk students’ unique concerns and hosted 81 virtual and in-person learning opportunities in 2020 and 2021. Some were large events with fun themes and games, while others were small-group focused trainings. All of them were tailored specifically to the needs of these students and focused on solidifying their financial futures.

This project is an outgrowth of MidFirst Bank’s MoneyMoments branded financial education program. The MoneyMoments program does not sell banking products. It focuses on the financial wellness of the community by providing a host of educational opportunities. Since its founding 12 years ago, the MoneyMoments program has reached 135,000 students of all ages through workshops, webinars and student coaching sessions. In addition, the program provides valuable content on the MoneyMoments Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn accounts and on the MoneyMoments.com website.
