The Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod - Barnstable, Massachusetts

2020 Community Commitment Awards Submission

  • Entry Category: Affordable Housing
  • Asset Size: Small

In 2019, The Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod Charitable Foundation Trust provided a partnership grant to Cape Abilities for a new program, Adopt-A-Home. The mission of Cape Abilities is to serve individuals with disabilities on Cape Cod by educating, counseling and providing residential, therapeutic, social and employment supports that empower them to achieve meaningful and valued roles in the community.Adopt-A-Home creates a unique and innovative partnership with Cape Abilities' residential homes. These homes enable individuals with disabilities to live as independently as possible. Each resident receives the ongoing care and support they need along with the security and comfort of knowing they have a life-long home. The residents actively and deeply integrate into their neighborhoods and community.Cape Abilities currently has 15 residential homes across the Cape, housing anywhere from 2-8 people. The Coop “adopted” a home in West Barnstable, and provided funding for projects that range from landscaping to home decorating to social engagement activities. The opportunities are endless when it comes to making a difference in the lives of the residents in these homes and making an impact on Cape Cod as a stronger, more inclusive community. The Coop is the first Adopt-A-Home partner and is championing the project to other local businesses with the goal to fully support all 15 houses. Together, we are providing safe and supportive housing for one of the most vulnerable population
