What a Community Bank Needs to Know About Model Risk Management

2.0 CRCM

Until recently, the provisions of the Federal Reserve and OCC Supervisory Guidance on Model Risk, SR 11-7 / OCC 2011-12, have been imposed only on large banking firms. However, bank supervisors have begun to look at community banks for compliance.

While the expectations are generally commensurate with the size and complexity of the institution, community banks should be aware of what they need to do to comply with the Guidance. This recording outlines a compliance program for a community bank, which generally has a small number of models provided by vendors.

This recording focuses on:

  • The key elements of the Model Risk Management Supervisory Guidance
  • Steps a community bank can take to comply
  • What a small bank must do, and what it does not have to worry about

  • Bill Tucker, CIA, CRCM, Director of Compliance and Operational Risk Management, State Bank & Trust Company
  • Jason Dulnev, Principal, Model Risk Management, PriceWaterhouse Coopers LLC
  • Robert Strand, Senior Economist, Office of the Chief Economist, Economic Policy and Research, American Bankers Association (moderator)
