Certification Continuing Education FAQs

How do I know if an activity has received ABA Professional Certifications approval?

Most programs list ABA CE credit information directly in their promotional or course materials. ABA offers a wealth of resources to earn continuing education credits, including briefings, residential schools and conferences.

May I use In-House training programs as CE credit?
First check with your own internal training coordinator to determine if any internal training programs have been pre-approved for ABA CE credit. You may report a training program that has not been reviewed as long as it is relevant to the Exam Outline. You would need to calculate the credit prior to submission.

How would I calculate CE credits for a program?
Determine the total instructional minutes and divide by 50. Fifty (50) minutes of instruction is equal to one (1) credit; Round this number up to the nearest quarter increment prior to submitting. You may not include breaks or meal functions, motivational speeches, business meeting, introductory remarks, or award presentations.

How do I report the CE credit that I have earned?
Certification holders are required to submit their credits via the Certification Manager.

How long does it take for CE credits to appear in my record once submitted?
Please allow 2 business days for credit to appear successfully to your Certification Details page. If a course does not appear on your certification record after the 2 business days, please contact ABA at certifications@aba.com

How do I correct an error in CE credit I have already submitted?
Once you hit submit, you are no longer able to edit the information. Please send an email to certifications@aba.com with details concerning what needs to be corrected. You will receive email confirmation once the correction has been made.

Do I need to send a certificate of attendance for CE that I completed?
ABA does not require that you send a certificate of attendance or completion. You should however, keep this information on hand for the duration of your 3-year CE cycle.

When are my CE credits due?
CE credits must be submitted no later than January 31 after the three-year cycle end date of December 31. Programs submitted after December 31, must have been attended by December 31. Three-year reporting cycles may be viewed through your Certification Manager record.

What happens if I fail to earn the required CE credits in my three-year CE cycle?
If you fail to earn the required credits in a given three-year cycle, it will result in decertification. CE credit is a non-negotiable issue.

If I am decertified, how do I get my certification reinstated?
You would need to repeat the application process and pass the exam.
