2004 Mid-Market Lending Survey Report

survey thumbnailConducted from March to May 2004, more than 100 bank executives were interviewed to identify the top challenges and best practices of serving mid-market businesses. The 2004 Mid-Market Lending Survey Report identifies those challenges, and what best practices might be used to improve the management of mid-market customer relationships.

Among the report's highlights:

  • Survey respondents are expecting moderate to strong growth in lending originations over the next year. The majority of growth is expected from commercial real estate, lines and term loans, which compose 90 percent of current origination volume.
  • According to the survey, using integrated front-office systems to prepare loan documents decreases data entry by 32 percent. Additionally, the turn-around time for approving credit and issue final documentation improves by as much as 72 percent with automated processing.
  • Although straight-through processing is recognized as best practice, only 30 percent of the respondents reported having such capability.

Release date: August 2004
