ABA Foundation Seeking Hosts for 7th Annual Lights, Camera, Save! Video Contest

Local banks urged to sponsor teen competition

​WASHINGTON — The American Bankers Association Foundation is urging local banks to participate in its Lights, Camera, Save! video contest. Lights, Camera, Save! is a national contest that encourages teens to use video to communicate the value of sound money management.
Through Lights, Camera, Save!, teen participants will create a 90-second video that demonstrates the importance of using money wisely and submit the video to their local contest at a participating bank.
Registered banks will host the first round of judging and select a winning student to compete on the national level for several awards, including a grand prize of $5,000, plus a scholarship for a teacher at their school to attend the 2017 Jump$tart National Educator Conference.  Last year, banks hosted 114 contests in 44 states.  [View the 2015-2016 winning videos]
“Today’s teens are incredibly creative and tech savvy," said Corey Carlisle, ABA Foundation executive director. “Lights, Camera, Save! gives them an opportunity to leverage those skills creating ‘edu-tainment’ videos that resonate with their peers.  By participating in the contest, banks and students alike become advocates for financial education.”
For the second year in a row, the Lights, Camera, Save! contest is sponsored by Discover® Debit, a debit card program offered to banks by Discover Financial Services.
“Last year, the quality of the student submissions was impressive. The top videos were thoughtful and engaging in communicating the value of saving,” said Steve Sievert, vice president of debit marketing for Discover. “We believe strongly in supporting educational efforts that give young people a head start in understanding the keys to a successful financial future.”

The ABA Foundation is offering a free informational webinar on Aug. 23 at 2 p.m. ET for interested banks and will provide contest registrants with real-time customer support and promotional materials.
Bankers interested in participating in the contest can sign up online at Registered banks will be featured on the list of participating banks on ABA Foundation’s website and in press materials. Since 1997, the ABA Foundation’s financial education initiatives have reached over 7.6 million young people with the help of more than 225,000 banker volunteers.
