Topics to be addressed

The New Basics of Asset-Liability Management for Directors
(2:00 - 3:30 p.m. EST; Wednesday, December 9, 2009)
Many of the basics of bank portfolios and asset-liability management have been shaken in the course of current events. Markets have been rattled. Some old standbys have been punctured. And certainty … well, goodbye to that. Federal Reserve Board and Treasury actions have brought about changes to financial strategy that continue to challenge bank executives. Exercising oversight in such uncertain times demands a fresh look at this key discipline of banking. This will help directors better meet a duty that's grown tougher by the month.

Boards and Strategic Planning in a Challenging Environment
(Audio CD Now Available)
Is strategic planning only about good times? Of course not. Yet many of today's board members only know the strategic planning discipline in times of rising markets and steadily improving results. But strategic planning actually becomes more important than ever in times like these. Planning isn't just about growth. It's also about riding out rough times, surviving, recovering, and building again. Boards that plan for their banks to be around tomorrow need to rethink their approaches to strategic planning today.

Regulatory Update for the Board
(Audio CD Now Available)
Bank boards face a regulatory blizzard unlike anything seen in at least a decade. Add this to the normal volume of regulatory developments and you've got a substantial challenge. Regulatory experts will give you and your directors the latest "lay of the land" as well as summaries and forecasts on key regulatory initiatives that you'll want to know about in detail. The emphasis will be on short, to-the-point awareness raising, rather than details beyond directors' needs.

Directors and Regulators: Understanding The Examination and Enforcement Process
(Audio CD Now Available)
Conditions have grown tougher. Field examiners have, too. At your next exam the board may have more than a wakeup call in store. Though many directors don't know it, much of the regulatory enforcement process can be made public. Not the kind of publicity board members nor management want to court, these days. Experts will provide an overview of how bank exams work under current conditions; tips on putting the bank's best foot forward; a review of regulatory enforcement at all its stages; and advice on navigating the shoals of enforcement to minimize the impact.

Audio CDs for each telephone briefing will be available for purchase
7-10 days after the airing of the program.
