John M. Blanchfield
John M. Blanchfield is Senior Vice President of the American Bankers Association's Center for Agricultural and Rural Banking in Washington, DC. He has been with the ABA for fourteen years.
John is the association's spokesperson for all agricultural and rural banking issues. In this role he makes 30 to 40 speeches a year and has been widely quoted in national agricultural and business publications including the Wall Street Journal. He has appeared on WGN's US Farm Report and has been a featured guest on many other television and radio programs.
At ABA, John represents the interests of agricultural and rural banks, which have over $90 billion in outstanding credit to the nation's farmers and ranchers. He develops agricultural and rural policy for the association and represents the association before the Congress and the Administration.
In addition, he coordinates the activities of a 15 member national Agricultural and Rural Bankers Committee; plans the National Agricultural Bankers Conference, and publishes other essential information for use by banks that are involved in agricultural lending.
Prior to coming to ABA, John was an Agricultural Loan officer at Fleet Bank of New York in Utica, New York for six years. At Fleet, he specialized in loans to dairy, cash grain crops and table stock vegetables.
Before Fleet Bank, John owned and operated an agricultural consulting business for 4 years that did loan processing and servicing under contract with the USDA/Farmers Home Administration. The firm also did farm real estate appraisals for banks and for estate planners.
John began his career in agricultural lending in 1978 when he became a loan officer with the USDA, Farmers Home Administration. John graduated from the University of Maryland in 1977.
