BANKING LEADERS GATHER AT ABA ANNUAL CONVENTION IN SAN FRANCISCO
WASHINGTON – Bankers across the country will gain a better understanding of the recent meltdown in capital markets and what it means to their own bank at the American Bankers Association's Annual Convention held Nov. 9-12 at the Hilton San Francisco. At this event, they will learn from industry experts and regulators the latest in industry trends as well as how upcoming regulation and legislation could affect their banks.
Convention attendees will hear from Sheila C. Bair, chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, as well as John M. Reich Jr., director of the Office of Thrift Supervision. Moderating the discussion will be Diane Casey-Landry, COO of the ABA.
Former White House press secretary Michael D. McCurry and William Kristol, editor and publisher of The Weekly Standard, and a regular on Fox News, will discuss the results of the Nov. 4 presidential election and its implications for the banking industry.
Carly Fiorina, former CEO of Hewlett Packard and one of the most powerful businesswomen in the country, will discuss how to turn the challenges of change, globalization and technology into business opportunities. There will be insightful discussions from leaders in the industry on topics such as:
- An Overview of the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act;
- Making the Most of the Volatile Mortgage Market;
- Capturing and Retaining Commercial Market Share;
- Understanding Capital Markets in Today's Environment and Beyond; and
- Private Equity Investors: A Different Perspective.
Held just prior to the conference will be a Habitat for Humanity "home build" for convention volunteers as well as a Directors' Forum focusing on oversight responsibilities, succession planning, financial due diligence, committee roles, and best practices in management. Chairmen, directors, CEOs and senior management who regularly interact with the board are recommended to attend. There is a separate registration fee for the Directors' Forum.
Guests and spouses are encouraged to participate in the engaging programs that will be led throughout the week by some of today's best-selling authors and inspiration speakers on topics ranging from life enrichment to humanitarianism.
