CERTIFIED FINANCIAL MARKETING PROFESSIONAL (CFMP)

Eligibility Requirements

1. Professional Experience & Education

A minimum of two (2) years of experience in financial services marketing and a graduate from one of the following educational programs:

  • ABA's School of Bank Marketing and Management, or
  • AIB Bank Marketing Diploma, or 
  • ICB-approved Graduate School of Banking, (i.e., Stonier), or
  • MBA or other advanced degree in marketing
or
Five (5) years of experience in financial services marketing and a bachelor's degree
.
 
2. Professional Reference

One letter of recommendation from your manager attesting to your qualifications for certification, including your financial services marketing experience is required.

3. Ethics Statement

Each candidate must sign ICB's Professional Code of Ethics statement found on the back of the application.

Please note - You must furnish all pertinent information about any convictions or pleas of nolo contendere on the grounds of fraud, embezzlement, unfair or deceptive practices, securities law violations, misappropriation of property, fraudulent conversations or any civil or administrative action from which you have been previously found liable.

4. Application

You must complete and submit the application.  You are required to meet the eligibility requirements in place at the time that you submit your application.

Professional Knowledge Areas

The CFMP advisory board has determined that a competent financial marketing professional's expertise includes the following knowledge areas:

Financial Principles

Candidates must possess an understanding of a financial institution's financial management process, including asset/liability management, cost/benefit analysis, balance sheets, income statements, and ratios.

 

Laws & Regulations

Candidates must possess an understanding of the laws and regulations that govern a financial institution's advertising and market planning with relation to loan, deposit and non-traditional products, promotions, give-aways, sweepstakes and privacy considerations.

 

Market Research

Candidates must possess an understanding of the market research process to include qualitative and quantitative techniques and customer and competitive intelligence.

 

Characteristics of Marketing Plans

Candidates must possess an understanding of the market planning process to include situation analysis, objectives, market segmentation, target marketing, customer relationship management, strategies, tactics, outcome measurement and results.

 

Marketing Components

Candidates must possess an understanding of both the marketing and promotion mix to include campaign design, product characteristics, brand characteristics, pricing strategies, delivery channel alternatives, public relations, sales support, and ethics.

 

Fees

Application & Exam Fee:

$295 for ABA Marketing Network Members;
$495 for non ABA Marketing Network Members.
Fee is 100% refundable upon written request prior to the published withdrawal date.

Exam Retake Fee - $150

Exam Cancellation Fee
There is an exam withdrawal fee, the amount of wich depends on when an exam candidate withdraws from the exam.  A $125 exam fee is assessed if candidate cancels or withdraws after the published withdrawal deadline (see below) from a scheduled exam date for which the candidate is registered.  However, requests for withdrawal received on or less than seven (7) business days prior to the exam date will not be honored and the entire exam fee will be forfeited.  ICB will consider waiving the forfeiture fee in case of a medical emergency.  Your request for such a waiver must be made in writing and supported by documentatio from a physician, which clearly states tha you are unable to appear for the exam due to personal or immediate family medical issues.  Requests will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Annual Membership Fee:
$99 for ABA Marketing Network Members
$199 for non-ABA Marketing Network Members
Multiple Certification Discount:
$298
for two certifications; $398 for three or more, ABAMN Member
$350 for two certifications; $450 for three or more, non-ABA Marketing Network Members
Fee is assessed annually every year after certification has been granted.

Examination Format & Length

The CFMP exam consists of 150 multiple-choice questions. You will be given three hours in which to complete the exam. Everything that you will need to complete the exam is provided by ICB. Assistance from calculators and other equipment is not allowed.

**Individual proctored exam means that the candidate has the option of taking the exam at his/her company with an ICB-certified member serving as exam proctor.  Another option is for ICB to locate an exam site that is within 2 hours driving time from the candidate's company.

Please note that, while ICB recommends these resources for appropriate examination preparation, ICB does not guarantee that you will pass the exam by completing these educational programs or studying these materials alone.  The CFMP exam assesses not only your knowledge of the topics on the exam outline, but also your application of that knowledge.  You should refer frequently to the CFMP exam outline when preparing for the exam.

Approved Post-Certification Continuing Education

You must complete 35 credits of continuing education every three years.  You are allowed to carry over up to one-third of your earned credits per three-year cycle.  The following list is intended to give you an idea of the types of continuing education ICB approves for post continuing education credit.
