Numbers matter in Washington. That is why it's critical that you—and others from your bank and board--participate in the ABA Government Relations Summit.
Bankers have had a consistent message on financial regulatory reform, including our opposition to the proposed Consumer Financial Protection Agency. The ABA Government Relations Summit is the ideal time and place to drive that message home, to show with your presence that the banking industry will be heard.
The timing is critical and mid-March is just when the Senate is likely to be actively considering regulatory reform.
We will hear from high-ranking officials and representatives from Capitol Hill, including:
- Steny Hoyer (D-Md.), House Majority Leader
- Evan Bayh (D-Ind.), Senate Banking Committee member
- Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), Senate Banking Committee ranking member
- John Boehner (R-Ohio), House Republican Leader
- Sheila Bair, FDIC Chairman
- John Dugan, Comptroller of the Currency
- John Bowman, Acting Director, Office of Thrift Supervision
- Betsy Duke, Federal Reserve Board Governor
- Karen Mills, Administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration
We'll talk about all aspects of regulatory reform. But most importantly, bankers will go to Capitol Hill and bring their message of rational reform to members of Congress.
These are truly extraordinary times for our industry. Bankers are facing extremely difficult economic and political challenges that could forever alter the future of the banking industry. We need to come together and make our voices heard by the people shaping new policies.
But most importantly, bankers will go to Capitol Hill and bring their message of rational reform to members of Congress.
Stay involved. Shape the future.
