Frequently Asked Questions about the Visa TravelMoney® Card
What is a Prepaid Travel Card?
The prepaid travel card (known as the Visa TravelMoney® Card) is an instant-issue, point-of-sale debit card with ATM capabilities. The card is PIN and signature protected and can be used to withdraw cash at over 1,000,000 Visa affiliated ATMs worldwide. It is also globally accepted for purchases at millions of Visa merchants, including online vendors.
How does this card differ from the customer's (bank) debit card?
The card is prepaid upfront and is not affiliated with the customer's bank account. It is replaceable while the customer is abroad if their card were to be lost or stolen. No need to return to your bank as it's reloadable.
What is the sign-on fee?
There is no sign-on fee for any ABA member bank.
How will customers be able to purchase a Visa TravelMoney Card?
The Card is available as an instant-issue card, so customers can purchase a card at any participating ABA member bank or online via the bank's Web site if the bank participates in the "My Travel Wallet" program.

What is Visa Purchase Protection?
Visa TravelMoney cardholders are entitled to 90-day Purchase Protection. This means that Visa will replace, repair items, or reimburse the customer to a maximum of $500 per claim and $50,000 per cardholder for eligible items of personal property purchased entirely with the eligible Visa card for the first ninety (90) days from the date of purchase in the event of theft, damage due to fire, vandalism, accidentally discharged water, or weather.
Important information regarding the Visa TravelMoney Card purchases.
Restaurants. Some restaurants will verify that the card has enough funds to cover the purchase and 15%-20% tip, or they'll decline the transaction.
Hotels. The hotel clerk will verify that the card has sufficient funds to pay an estimated bill. That amount will be "held" in the account, making it unavailable for other purchases. Upon checkout, the "hold" will be removed and the actual bill amount will be deducted.
Automated Fuel Dispensers. Some gas stations check to see if funds are available to pay for a full tank (up to $30). If the card is declined, customers can tell the attendant how much gas they plan to buy and sign the receipt inside for that amount.
Address Verification. When making a purchase through the Internet or by phone/mail order, the address registered for the card will be checked against the merchant's records. Any difference may lead to a decline.
Tolerance. An extra percentage or dollar amount is added to all authorizations at the following merchants (but the account will only be debited for the actual amount spent): Automated fuel dispensers, Car Rentals, Cruiselines, Hotels, Mail Orders, Restaurants, Bars, Pay Telephones.
Can customers return a purchase?
Each merchant location has its own policy and will handle the return in the same manner as any other Visa transaction. Customers may receive a credit to the Visa TravelMoney Card, a cash refund, or a store credit. A credit to your Visa TravelMoney Card may take up to 3 working days.
Does the Visa TravelMoney Card have an expiration date?
Yes. The expiration date will be up to 24 months, as indicated on the front of the card.
Can a Visa TravelMoney Card be reloaded?
Yes. The Visa TravelMoney Card has unlimited reload capabilities.
What happens if the card is lost or stolen?
If the card is lost or stolen, we will replace the outstanding funds in the card anywhere in the world. However, you can carry a second Visa TravelMoney Card and if one card is lost or stolen, your funds are protected and accessible.
